DIY'S

Minnie Witch Costume

Personally I like to take an outfit of a character and make it unique and make it my own. Mostly because I can’t afford to pay someone to make an exact replica for me, and I am not talented enough to make one for myself.

Halloween Mickey and Minnie have the coolest outfits and when I found this adorable purple velvet dress at Savers, I knew I needed to make it into Minnie’s costume for Jas.

This DIY is super easy and inexpensive but Jasmin keeps asking to wear it!

WHAT YOU NEED:

base dress (mine is from savers)

orange ribbon ($.99 at Jo-anns)

orange fabric (I just bought one of those squares for $2.50)

doll witch hat (Jo-anns doll assembly section $1.99 before coupon)

light up pumpkins (dollar store)

pumpkin buttons (Jo-anns)

witch socks (mine from the dollar section at Target)

First I sewed 3 strips of orange ribbon down the front of her dress

Next I cut strips of the orange fabric and ruffled them and sewed them around the arm holes, but not all the way around, so Jasmin would still be able to move her arms up and down and it wouldn’t be too tight.

I then sewed the button to the top of the middle strip of ribbon

I took my light up pumpkins and laid them out on the bottom of the dress, spaced how I wanted them.  I then sewed a few stitches around the black cord fastening them to the dress.

The battery pack for the lights is up under the dress. I took the leftover orange fabric and rolled it over the pack, making a pocket, and hot glueing it shut. I made sure I could reach and use the on/off button, then sewed the pocket with the battery pack onto the dress.

I took some of the ribbon and tied it into little bows over each pumpkin light, and stitched them down. The first time she wore it, they kept coming untied. So after I tied the ribbon into bows, I put one or two stitched through each one to secure it.

The hat is super easy as well. Hot glue the orange ribbon to the brim and a little bow on the front. Next hot glue a circle of felt over the opening on the bottom. I cut two slits in the felt to slide a hair clip through.

Add your cute striped socks and there you go!

Jasmin had a blast twirling in her light up pumpkin dress! And has requested to wear it several times!

For my skirt, I just cut strips of the orange ribbon and sewed them i to the pleats of my skirt.

If you make this please tag me on IG @boundingonabuget I would love to see how you made your outfit unique!

Love Hailee & Jasmin
